Multiple residents attend food distribution event in Lethbridge
LETHBRIDGE, AB – With prices for groceries, gas and other amenities on the rise across Canada, many residents find themselves struggling to keep up.
On Tuesday, June 21, 2022, Alberta Food Rescue and Distribution (formerly known as Calgary Family Peer Connections) set up shop for the day at the Highland Park Townhomes complex in north Lethbridge. The organization worked alongside Mainstreet Equity Corp. to provide over $100,000 worth of food to residents in need.
Jaquie Duhacek, founder and director of Calgary Family Peer Connections was on hand for the distribution event. She noted that in Lethbridge, there are three Mainstreet housing areas. All residents within those areas were invited to pick up food during Tuesday’s afternoon event.
Duhacek said her organization is the province’s largest food rescue agency. She remarked that, “we rescued 10.5 million pounds of food last year…and saved 10-million pounds of food from landfills.”
