Claresholm RCMP charge Fort Macleod man with weapons offences

CLARESHOLM, AB – A 35-year-old man from Fort Macleod has been charged with weapons offences.

In the early hours of June 22, 2022, Claresholm RCMP spotted an abandoned vehicle on 7 Street and 51 Avenue in Claresholm. While officers made arrangements to have the vehicle towed, they found an unsecured rifle and ammunition. The items were seized by Mounties.

After officers had left the scene, they were called back to the area by the tow truck operator, who reported that the vehicle owner had returned to the scene and was threatening them.

Officers spoke with the reported vehicle owner, who confirmed his identity as repeat offender Andrew Albert Watson. The 35-year-old from Fort Macleod has been charged with the following:

  • Two counts of unauthorized possession of a weapon
  • Unsafe storage of a firearm
  • Fail to comply with release condition (three counts)
  • Uttering threats

Watson has been remanded in custody with a court appearance set for June 23, 2022 in Lethbridge Provincial Court.
