Canadian wineries to receive new grants from federal government

OTTAWA, ON – Canada’s wine sector is getting a helping hand from the federal government.

The Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, Marie-Claude Bibeau, shared details last week about a new support program for wineries to help them stay innovative and competitive.

“Our local products and wine routes contribute to the attractiveness and vitality of our regions. This support for Canadian vineyards will enable them to innovate and be more productive and competitive,” added Bibeau.

All licensed wineries that produce or contract out the production of bulk wine from primary agricultural products, such as grapes, berries, other fruit, dandelions, rice, and sap, can receive grants through the program.

The amount given will be determined by each winery’s production.

“This federal support is a critical step forward in helping restore certainty and confidence throughout the sector and will enable wineries to reinvest in their businesses and employees,” added Dan Paszkowski, President and CEO of Wine Growers Canada.

The program will be in place for two years with the federal government allocating up to $166 million for it.

Interested wineries for the first round of grants can apply anytime between July 4 and August 12.
