LETHBRIDGE, AB – Another new recruit has been announced for the Lethbridge College Kodiaks men’s volleyball team. Keagen Salomons will join the team for the upcoming 2022-2023 season.

The six-foot-five hitter is from Lacombe and joins the Kodiaks after a successful high school season, where he helped the Central Alberta Christian Knights claim the 1A provincial championship. Salomons was a two-time provincial champion and won multiple zone titles during his time with the Knights.

Kodiaks head coach Greg Gibos said, “Keagen is just a great person who we know has a long future here at Lethbridge College and can impact our community in a positive way.”

“He’s a well-rounded young man and his passion for volleyball was clearly on display during his championship season. We are always looking for people who check every box of being a student-athlete and Keagen certainly does that,” Gibos stated.

Salomons said he chose to join the Kodiaks, “because I know the program develops high level players.”

“The school also has many reputable programs and I see myself being a very good fit both athletically and academically,” he commented.

Salomons continued, “I promise to bring energy to both practice and competition, as well as being a positive presence in the locker room. I’m looking forward to giving my best each day in the gym, community and classroom.”

FAMILY INSPIRATION

The newest Kodiak said he is grateful for his family’s support. He said, “My grandma always believed I would go far and do good things.”

Salomons continued, “She was there for me when I was little and although she’s passed away, I still take her life lessons with me.”

He added, “My parents have always supported me by coming to games and making time to come to tournaments. They taught me what it means to have a strong work ethic and how you must work hard to achieve your goals.”

Salomons will enrol in the college’s Business Administration program, with the intention of completing a bachelor’s degree in management.

He credits growing up in a tight-knit community as being instrumental in helping him achieve his dreams and said he was impressed by how active the Kodiaks are in the community.

Salomons said, “The community work the Kodiaks do as a program is something I’m really looking forward to. I know the positive effects a good community can have on individuals and I’m looking forward to assisting and becoming part of the community.”

“I’m also looking forward to meeting the team. You can tell they have a great team energy and a tight-knit brotherhood. I’m excited to grow and develop as a person and a player in Lethbridge.”

The Kodiaks will start the 2022-2023 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference regular season in mid-October.
