PINCHER CREEK, AB – The Town of Pincher Creek has announced the passing of long-time resident and town councillor Wayne Elliott.

The municipality said Elliott was camping with his family in Saskatchewan and passed away suddenly on Saturday, July 9, 2022.

“Councillor Elliott was a passionate member of our Council, his humour, knowledge, and love for our community will be greatly missed,” reads a post by the Town of Pincher Creek. “Councillor Elliott was serving his 5th term as an elected official. He loved representing Pincher Creek in surrounding communities’ parades, attended as many community events as possible, and never missed an opportunity to share why Pincher Creek is the best place to live.”

The flag at town hall has been lowered in his honour. A moment of silence will be held at the next Pincher Creek council meeting on July 25, 2022.

“The Mayor, Council, and administration would like to extend our deepest condolences to Councillor Elliott’s wife Janice, his children Randy, Miranda, and Mike, his extended family, and all those who are affected by his loss.”

There is no word at this time on when a potential by-election would be held to fill the seat left by Elliott.

The Town is asking the public to respect the family’s privacy.
