COALDALE, AB – The Town of Coaldale is gearing up for Summer Fest.

It is scheduled to take place August 5 to 6, 2022 and follows last year’s ‘Celebrate Main’ event and the previous ‘Settler Days’ festival in the town.

Summer Fest 2022 is dedicated to thanking Coaldale’s frontline workers.

Erica Romeo, Community Services Coordinator for the Town of Coaldale said, “The past couple years have been hard on everyone, especially on our frontline workers.”

“Not everyone was able to work from the safety of their homes, and that’s why this year’s Fest is dedicated to them,” she stated.

Romeo continued, “The entire Summer Fest Committee felt it important to bring awareness to all of the extra hours these people have worked, risks they’ve taken, and sacrifices they’ve made to keep things up and running during the pandemic.”

The event will kick off in the evening on Friday, August 5 with a screening of the movie ‘The Bad Guys’ at Millennium Park behind the Coaldale Sportsplex. Attendees can enjoy West Winds Kettle Corn and Kona Ice food trucks, which will be on site around 7:30 p.m. There will be live music until the movie starts, just after sundown at approximately 9:30 p.m.

The festivities on Saturday, August 6 will start with a Knights of Columbus pancake breakfast fundraiser from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and the return of Coaldale’s Candy Parade at 11:00 a.m.

Coaldale Mayor Jack Van Rijn stated, “We’re extremely excited to see the return of the Candy Parade.”

“Last year the parade had to be cancelled due to the pandemic. But this year marks a return to normalcy and I can’t wait to see all of our residents and their kids enjoying themselves along the parade route.”

The parade will be followed by more live music at the ATCO Stage, the Coaldale Custom Cruisers Car Show, and the Domesticated Divas Open Air Market. Attendees can also enjoy wagon rides along 18th Street, just south of the Coaldale Public Library, as well as many other family friendly activities, including:
