STANDOFF, AB – The Kanai Powwow and Celebration makes its return Friday, July 15 to Sunday, July 17 at Red Crow Park in Standoff.

The event marks a comeback after a two-year absence caused by the pandemic. The Kainai Powwow and Celebration will feature a rodeo, stick-games, Warrior Relay Races, a parade, as well as slow pitch and golf tournaments.

Travis Plaited Hair, Co-chair of the Powwow and Blood Tribe councillor said, “We were happy to announce the return of our Powwow and Celebration this year because it allows our community to come back together after what we have been through especially with the pandemic.”

“Our community can celebrate in a way that helps us heal by being with our friends and family, in person, and to ensure that happens in a good and safe way.”

The Powwow begins Friday, July 15 with the first Grand Entry at 7:00 p.m. at Red Crow Park. Organizers of the event recommend attendees arrive an hour early to avoid any traffic delays in the area.

The Powwow runs all weekend with additional Grand Entries on Saturday, July 16 at 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, July 17 at 1:00 p.m. Blood Tribe Chief and council will host a Giveaway Dance after Sunday’s 1:00 p.m. Grand Entry. This will be followed by a feast at 3:00 p.m.
