What’s happening in Lethbridge this weekend, July 15, 2022

LETHBRIDGE, AB – All sorts of celebrations are happening across Lethbridge and the surrounding area this weekend. From big trucks, to Powwow’s, and festivals, there’s something for everyone.

Starting your Friday off right, is the South Country Fair. This annual three-day event is back after a two year hiatus due to COVID-19. Taking place at 249 Lyndon Road in Fort Macleod, South Country Fair is an “old-world outdoor folk music festival” with the goal of expanding cultural horizons in Southern Alberta by giving people opportunities to indulge in a variety of music, spoke word, and performance art. Another event making its return for the first time in two years is the Kainai Powwow and Celebration. Starting on Friday, July 15 and finishing up on Sunday, July 17, the Kainai Powwow and Celebration taking place near Standoff, will feature a parade, rodeo, stick-games, Warrior Relay Races, slow pitch, and a golf tournament. On Sunday, the Blood Tribe Chief and council will host a Giveaway Dance after the 1 p.m. Grand Entry, then at 3 p.m. to cap off the weekend a feast will be held. For the big truck fans, the Southern Alberta Truck Expo is taking place on Saturday, July 16. The expo starts up at 10 a.m. and runs until 5 p.m., admission to the expo is a non-perishable food item or cash donation for the Lethbridge Food Bank. The expo is hosted by the Southern Alberta Truck Exposition Association, and is intended to promote employment and safety within the trucking industry. Taking place at the Lethbridge Exhibition Park, the event will include a job fair, show and shine, food trucks, and lots of activities for the kids. Also occuring over the weekend is the 11th Western Canada Regional Nepalese Sports and Cultural Event. Hosted by the Canadian Bhutanese Society at Lethbridge Sports Park, this free event was organized to provide various communities and teams from across Canada to share their culture and traditions, and foster friendship amongst community members. Over the weekend their will be opportunities to play Soccer, Volleyball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Dandi-Biyo, and Carrom Board. The event runs from 9:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday July 16. On Sunday the action picks back up at 10 a.m. and will wrap up around 4 p.m..

Last but not least, on Sunday, July 17 the Galt Museum and Archives is presenting, The Roaring Twenties at 100: An Alberta Perspective. The event will allow you to relive the roaring twenties here in Alberta. This event will showcase the emergence of the “cult of individualism” in major urban centres and will also feature a lecture by Dr. Stephane Gurvremont. This event takes place between 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. with no registration required.
