Lethbridge’s Ty Penner signs with Philadelphia Phillies

LETHBRIDGE, AB – A local baseball player is getting a shot at the big leagues.

The Lethbridge Bulls have announced that Ty Penner has signed with the Philadelphia Phillies of Major League Baseball (MLB). Penner played minor baseball in Lethbridge and was a key member of the Bulls’ 2021 Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL) championship run last summer.

Collegiately, Penner has been suiting up for the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds. Penner has also played for the Vauxhall Academy in Southern Alberta.

In a post on social media, the Lethbridge Bulls wrote, “Congratulations Ty, our program and city are proud of you!” The team also teased an appearance by Penner at its game Wednesday night.

On July 20, the Bulls host the Okotoks Dawgs at Spitz Stadium in Lethbridge.

The game will feature some added flair as it has a theme for fans in the stands. It’s Hero Night presented by Pattison Media radio station B-93.3 FM. The full 2022 regular season schedule for the Bulls is available on the team website.
