Alberta will continue coverage for insulin pumps
EDMONTON, AB – The Alberta government is dropping its plan to make changes to an insulin pump benefits program.
The program will continue as it was designed and will add access to the next generation of insulin pumps starting as soon as possible this year, according to a statement on Thursday.
The government says a diabetes working group is being formed to develop a comprehensive diabetes strategy for the province. The group will include patients, diabetes organizations, health professionals, researchers and health insurers. The care plan that will meet the needs of Albertans living diabetes. Recommendations will be shared with the Minister of Health before the fall of 2023.
“Meaningful change begins with meaningful conversations,” says Health Minister Jason Copping. “This is why we are committed to consulting with Albertans living with diabetes to better understand their needs and challenges. The working group will help identify what is needed now and what actions will be needed in the future.”
