COALDALE, AB – You can buy a piece of Coaldale history.

A listing for the Town of Coaldale’s current municipal government office has been posted online, marking it for sale on the Avison Young website.

The 7,801 square foot facility, located at 1920 17 Street, is priced at $845,000.

Mayor Jack Van Rijn says the town is ready to take possession of its new town hall and retail office space, known as Civic Square, by mid-to-late September 2022.

Once that happens, he explains that there will still be quite a bit of work to do before official town business can be conducted out of the new building.

Van Rijn estimates that workers will probably need another four-to-six weeks to move everything over and install all of the equipment and furniture.

The mayor says Civic Square will be a more modern space that will not only include space for municipal government operations but also private storefronts, community meeting rooms, and an outdoor recreation area.

“The ultimate goal is for the Civic Square project to stimulate additional growth and investment in Coaldale and to facilitate the success of existing commerce so that the downtown core may serve as a vibrant economic engine for many years to come,” says Van Rijn.

Civic Square is being constructed in a multi-phase process.

Phase one will see the completion of the government offices on the second floor and over 4,500 square feet of commercial space and an open atrium on the first floor.

The second phase will involve the development of up to 10,000 square feet of additional commercial space on Main Street, while the third and final phase will have workers build an outdoor recreation space between Civic Square and the Coaldale Public Library.
