RCMP investigating vandalism to Southern Alberta monument

LONGVIEW, AB – RCMP are asking for the public’s help in finding those responsible for damaging a monument in Southern Alberta.

Turner Valley RCMP received a report of vandalism to the Little Chicago / Royalties monument in Longview, located approximately 32 km west of High River.

The damages are believed to have occurred between July 7 and July 15, 2022.

“The monument has several plaques listing the names of those belonging to Little Chicago-Royalties and sadly three of the plaques were torn off the stone monument resulting in extensive damage to the monument,” reads a media release from Turner Valley RCMP. “This is a historical site that holds sentimental value to the communities and family members involved.”

The Little Chicago / Royalties monument was established in 2004. It commemorates oil drilling that started in the area in 1914 that brought economic prosperity to the community.

Turner Valley RCMP is asking that anyone with information about the incident contact them at 403-933-4262 or your local police. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
