LETHBRIDGE, AB – Manager of The Watch program Jeff Cove received the name “Travelling Amongst” by Piikani Elder, Morris Little Wolf during a ceremony held at the Multicultural Centre on Monday, August 1, 2022.

The name was presented to Cove in recognition of his years of service to the urban Indigenous community in Lethbridge, and to provide guidance and direction in his future interactions with the Blackfoot people.

Cove says it is moving to be given a name from the Blackfoot Nation. “I am humbled beyond words and very grateful to receive the honour of having a Blackfoot name given to me,” said Cove.

Cove joined The Watch program when it was first founded in 2019, and became manager in 2020. Cove served with the Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) for 29-years before retiring in 2014.

The Watch is a volunteer-based service that acts as a visible presence in downtown Lethbridge, assisting emergency services by being an ‘extra set of eyes and ears’. Volunteers help individuals connect with support agencies and assist in addressing negative behaviours.

In 2021, The Watch assisted police with over 6,500 events and issues.
