Salary, benefits totalled nearly $600,000 for Alberta’s top doctor in 2021

EDMONTON, AB – Dr. Deena Hinshaw was the public face of the COVID-19 pandemic in Alberta for nearly two years, leading to a sizable bonus in 2021.

The province’s chief medical officer of health collects an annual salary of more than $360,000.

Last year, she was paid nearly $600,000 thanks to cash benefits that were close to $230,000.

The figures are listed on the province’s salary disclosure and severance table.

According to a statement from the government, Hinshaw is one of 107 employees in management positions who were given extra pay for their work during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Total compensation for those 107 employees came to $2.4 million
