LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Alberta RCMP has released more details about a collision that took place on Highway 5 south of Lethbridge on Thursday, August 4, 2022.

Raymond RCMP officers were dispatched at 9:35 a.m. after a small SUV collided head-on with a semi-truck hauling livestock approximately two kilometres north of Welling, Alberta.

The RCMP confirms that the driver of the SUV, a 34-year-old woman from Lethbridge, was killed in the crash. Her name has not been released.

Police say the driver of the semi-truck sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

An RCMP Collision Reconstructionist was at the scene throughout the day, and a second semi-truck was brought in to transport the livestock away from the crash site. It’s not known if any livestock was killed or injured in the collision.

Highway 5 was closed and traffic was being diverted throughout the day. Motorists are still advised to avoid the area Thursday evening as Raymond RCMP remain on-site and crews work to tow the vehicles and clear the scene.
