MEDICINE HAT, AB – Lisa Gervais is back from the Netherlands and has some shiny new bling.

Gervais competed in the CrossFit competition at the World Police and Fire Games late last month.

A member of the Medicine Hat Police Service’s Tactical Arrest and Control Team, Gervais left Canada hoping to place in the top 10.

She did a whole lot more, finding herself on the podium after a third-place finish.

After day one, Gervais was in sixth place and took off from there.

“It was between me, a lady from Brazil, and a lady from Netherlands kind of battling it out for first, second, third. I was about five seconds shy of getting silver so it was quite the battle,” she says.

Gervais says she is happy to have done much better than anticipated and is already looking forward to next year when the World Police and Fire Games are in Winnipeg.

She says she’ll probably compete in CrossFit again but there are 60 events she could choose from. There is one in particular she’s considering.

“They have something called the Toughest Competitor Alive, which would be interesting,” she says with a laugh.

The bronze medal is tops, but Gervais can list off other highlights of her trip.

“We got to explore around Amsterdam and Rotterdam so that experience was wonderful but just going there and meeting other police officers and firefighters from all over the world and chatting with them about how they police in their own country was quite an experience. I met a lot of new friends and hopefully, I will be friends with them throughout my entire career.”
