UPDATE: Five people in custody following high-risk incident near Standoff

STANDOFF, AB – UPDATE: The Blood Tribe Police Service (BTPS) has confirmed that five people were taken into custody without incident following a situation on Monday, August 8, 2022.

Members of the BTPS and the RCMP Emergency Response Team, as well as members of the Lethbridge Tactical Team, executed a search warrant at a home in the Old Agency Area, about five kilometers north of Standoff. This came after officers responded to a firearms complaint.

The BTPS said as the investigation is ongoing, the names of those arrested and further details on the incident will not be released until formal charges are laid.

Members of the Blood Tribe Police Service (BTPS), along with the RCMP Emergency Response Team, are dealing with what they say is a high-risk incident.

The incident is in the Old Agency area, approximately five kilometers north of Standoff on the Blood Tribe First Nation.

“Police were alerted to the residence after community members were confronted by occupants of the residence carrying a firearm. No physical injuries were reported,” reads a media release from BTPS.

The situation is still ongoing. RCMP Emergency Response Team is now on scene. The incident is contained to a single residence. There is no risk to the general public. https://t.co/LKRl6lYl5g

The incident is contained to a single residence. Police say there is no immediate risk to the public.

As a precaution, however, the public is asked to stay clear of the area.
