“Extensive damage” to vehicles following impaired hit-and-run in Taber

TABER, AB – The Taber Police Service (TPS) is investigating numerous incidents of impaired driving over the past week, including one that resulted in two vehicles being damaged.

At approximately 10:30 pm on Monday, August 8, 2022, officers were called to the 4900 block of 52 Avenue.

Sgt. Steve Meggison says a vehicle collided with a parked vehicle, causing extensive damage to both.

By the time police arrived on scene, the offending vehicle had been abandoned. A 32-year-old woman was located a short distance away.

Meggison says the woman provided breath samples to police that resulted in a “fail” reading.

She was issued an Immediate Roadside Sanction, which included a 90-day license suspension, a $1,000 administrative fine, and a 30-day vehicle seizure.

TPS responded to four separate incidents of impaired drivers during the week of August 8-14, 2022.

Meggison pleaded with the public to stay safe when using impairing substances.

“I think the biggest thing is they need to plan ahead if they intend on drinking. Have a designated driver, take a taxi, call mom and dad for a ride, something like that, but not to drink and drive,” says Meggison.

As no criminal charges have been laid against the woman, TPS will not be releasing her name.
