LETHBRIDGE, AB – The City of Lethbridge is aiming to gather residential feedback on the budget priorities for City Council.

Councillors will begin budget deliberations in the fall to set a new four-year operating budget. From Wednesday, August 17 to Friday, September 9, 2022, residents in the city can participate in the ‘My Two Cents’ campaign. Citizens can share their input online and build their own City of Lethbridge operating budget to see how their spending priorities will impact property taxes.

Information gathered will help inform City Council during budget deliberations.

Deputy Mayor Jenn Schmidt-Rempel said, “Setting the budget is one of the most important things City Council will do.”

“That’s why it’s so important to engage with as many residents as we can.”

Schmidt-Rempel continued, “This information will give us a good sense of what the overall community priorities are so we can use that to make our decisions.”

She said the City of Lethbridge would like as many people as possible to participate. Schmidt-Rempel remarked, “If we can get that 40 to 50 per cent of our residents participating in this, it really gives council a good idea as to what residents and families see as the priorities in our community.”

She said that in addition to the online feedback, there will be in-person opportunities for residents to share their input, including one on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at the Lethbridge Farmers’ Market.

Residents who participate can also be entered into a draw for a $100 downtown Lethbridge gift card. Further details about the campaign are at the Get Involved Lethbridge website.
