LETHBRIDGE, AB – From Whoop-Up Days to yoga in the garden, or showing your support for the independence of Ukraine, there are plenty of events taking place around Lethbridge this week.
Start your day off right on Tuesday, August 23, as the Interfaith Food Bank hosts the Whoop-Up Days Pancake Breakfast from 7:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at the Interfaith Food Bank. Enjoy a traditional pancake breakfast while kids enjoy carnival games, crafts, and face painting. Admission for the pancake breakfast is suggested at $3.00 per adult, $2.00 for children ages 4-12, and children under three are free. All proceeds go towards funding programs and services at the Interfaith Food Bank.
Once you have had your fill of pancakes, make your way to 3 Avenue South or 13 Street North for the Whoop-Up Days Parade. Beginning at Park Place Mall at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 23, the parade will make its way towards 3 Avenue South before turning north onto 13 Street North. The final stretch of the parade takes place along 9 Avenue North and ends once it reaches Galbraith Elementary School.The theme of the parade this year is 125 years through history, and the honourable parade marshalls are Chief Roy Fox of Kainai Nation, Chief Stanley Grier from Piikani Nation and Chief Ouray Crowfoot from Siksika Nation.
If you’re not much of a morning person, don’t worry, Whoop-Up Days opens its gates at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 23, for the general public to come and celebrate. This year marks 125 years of Whoop-Up Days, which has been a time to celebrate summer in Lethbridge. This year will feature over 30 midway rides, an Indigenous cultural celebration, and brand-new this year is the La Galleria art showcase, the “YQL Beach” indoor beach party, and a dedicated kids zone. Whoop-Up Days begins on August 23, and closes its gates at 11:00 p.m. on August 27.
