Not guilty pleas entered in Lethbridge human trafficking case

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Pleas of not guilty have been entered for an Alberta man charged in connection to a human trafficking investigation.

In Lethbridge Provincial Court on Thursday, August 25, 2022, the lawyer for Fadi Chtewi, 21, entered not guilty pleas to a total of 10 counts.

The charges include two counts each of sexual assault and aggravated sexual assault, as well as one count each of sexual contact with a child, sexual counsel of a child, sexual assault with a person under the age of 16 years, aggravated sexual assault, trafficking in persons, and two or more parties involved in a sexual assault.

Chtewi will face two separate judge-alone trials in Lethbridge Court of Queen’s Bench.

Lawyers are next expected to meet on August 26, 2022, to set trial dates for one of the matters.

Chtewi was one of 10 people charged in August 2021 following a joint investigation with the Lethbridge Police Service, RCMP, Calgary Police Service, and ALERT’s Human Trafficking Counter Exploitation unit.
