Lethbridge man charged in connection to BB gun shooting

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) has apprehended a suspect in an assault investigation.

On August 9, 2022, officers were called to the 1100 block of Mayor Magrath Drive South.

A 24-year-old woman reported that, while walking home from work, an unknown man began a verbal altercation with her.

It allegedly escalated after the man walked away and returned with three other men.

The four reportedly yelled at the woman before one punched her in the face, shot her in the back with a BB gun, and threatened her.

The group left the area on foot.

In the early morning hours of Saturday, September 3, 2022, LPS patrol members arrested a suspect on the 2300 block of Scenic Drive South after a brief foot chase.

Kalan Michael Malmgren, 18, of Lethbridge, is charged with assault, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, and resisting arrest.

He was released from custody with a scheduled court appearance on September 29, 2022.

LPS is thanking the public and the media for their assistance in locating Malmgren.
