MEDICINE HAT, AB – Medicine Hat firefighters have been chosen to star in a documentary series being produced by a German multimedia company.

The company, Fabiola, began filming for the eight-part series called Alberta Alert on Friday.

Producers approached the City of Medicine Hat in March 2022 with their idea to showcase the life of a firefighter in Western society.

Fabiola Co-Founder Oliver Fuchs says Rene Grigat, a nine-year veteran of Medicine Hat Fire and Emergency Services, will be one of the main contributors to the series.

“Alberta Alert will highlight the everyday life of Grigat and the other local firefighters and their contribution to the city,” says Fuchs “The episodes will be told in an exciting way that highlight the often tough and dangerous life of a firefighter. We also want to feature the human side of these characters and how they collaborate as a team in the field.”

Filming will take place from Sept. 2-29, 2022, with more filming scheduled for January and February 2023. A variety of city locations will be featured with a particular focus on the three fire stations and boat launch.

Brian Stauth, Medicine Hat’s fire chief and director of fire and emergency services, says they are all honoured to be asked to be in the documentary and are proud to share their core values and work with the world.

Once complete, the documentary will air on the Discovery Network in Germany.

Mayor Linnsie Clark says the city is thrilled to welcome the film crew.

“Since the revision of the provincial film and television tax credit program, we are seeing more film companies choose Alberta than ever before,” she says. “Medicine Hat has lots to offer, and we look forward to seeing this documentary come to life.”
