Lethbridge MP: Poilievre win an opportunity for Canada

Sep 12, 2022 | 2:38 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Member of Parliament for Lethbridge was pleased to see the results of the Conservative Party of Canada’s (CPC) leadership race.

Rachael Thomas says Pierre Poilievre is somebody who is “for the people” and will work to restore power to the average Canadian.

Poilievre became the CPC leader following the party’s leadership convention on Saturday, September 10, 2022.

Thomas says attending the event in person was a great experience.

“I can tell you that it was packed with people and full of energy and excitement and anticipation of things to come,” says Thomas. “There’s definitely an overwhelming sense of positivity.”

According to Thomas, many Canadians are tired of the federal government taking their money and telling them what to do and how to do it.

Earlier this summer, Pollara Strategic Insights created a “Rage Index,” using survey data to show what Canadians are frustrated about. 48% of survey respondents said they were angry or annoyed with the federal government.

A big campaign commitment of Poilievre’s was that, if he were to become prime minister, he would not increase any taxes.

She told LNN that she has worked alongside Poilievre for many years and says that he is a man of his word.

“I have every confidence that he will serve Canadians well. When he tells Canadians he won’t raise taxes, he won’t raise taxes,” says Thomas.

The Lethbridge MP says she is optimistic about the future now that the federal conservatives are under the control of Poilievre and is confident that the conservatives will win the next federal election.

“We have an opportunity at our fingertips to turn to the Canadian people as the problem solvers and the solution makers and the wealth generators of this country,” says Thomas. “We have an opportunity to restore dignity and hope, we have an opportunity to make sure Canadians are empowered to achieve the potential that lies within them.”

Thomas says she remained impartial throughout the leadership race.

Poilievre met with the conservative caucus as the party leader for the first time on Monday, September 12, 2022. Thomas was at the meeting but says she is not able to discuss it due to cabinet confidentiality.

Poilievre received 68.15% of the total vote from party members and took 330 of the country’s 338 federal ridings.
