Five impaired drivers taken off the road in Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) says it was able to catch several impaired drivers off the road this past weekend.

As part of its ongoing enforcement blitz LPS issued five Immediate Roadside Sanction (IRS) fails for drinking and driving.

Officers also issued a warning to one driver, charged another for driving while suspended, and apprehended one person who was wanted on an outstanding warrant.

A media release from LPS says that a total of 30 tickets were given out under the Traffic Safety Act.

β€œThe enforcement project, which will continue on random weekends over the next few months, is aimed at providing safer roads for all users, allowing residents more peace and quiet and alleviating demands on Patrol members,” says LPS.

The police service adds that public complaints about speeding, racing, stunting, and loud vehicles have increased. The Traffic Response Unit hopes that increased visibility will help to reduce these behaviours.

Residents who have concerns with traffic issues can report them to LPS by calling 403-328-4444.
