Hurricanes announce leadership team for 2022-2023 season

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club announced its 2022-2023 leadership group on Saturday, September 24, 2022.

Co-captains Jett Jones and Joe Arntsen will lead the team as the 30th and 31st captains in franchise history. The Hurricanes’ Chase Pauls, Alex Thacker and Ty Nash will serve as alternate captains.

The 30th captain for the Hurricanes, Jett Jones, 20, is in his fourth and final season with the ‘Canes. The Olds, Alberta native has appeared in 155 career regular season games with the Hurricanes, where he collected 71 points and 57 penalty minutes. The forward set personal career highs in goals, assists and points during the 2021-22 season.

The 31st captain in the team’s history, Joe Arntsen, 19, was a second-round draft pick for the Hurricanes in the 2018 WHL Prospects Draft. The player from Dinsmore, Saskatchewan has appeared in 134 regular season games with the ‘Canes, earning a total of 47 points. Arnsten also had career highs in goals, assists and points in the 2021-22 season. Arnsten recently attended the Carolina Hurricanes Rookie camp.

First alternate captain Chase Pauls, 19, was signed by the Hurricanes in 2019 and is entering his third full season in the WHL. The defenceman from Osler, Saskatchewan has played 94 regular season games with the ‘Canes, and had a career high 22 points in 68 games during the 2021-22 season.

Second alternate captain Alex Thacker, 20, is entering his fourth and final season in the WHL. The forward from Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, has played 148 WHL games, 146 with the Hurricanes, earning 106 points and 42 penalty minutes. Thacker finished second in team scoring and eighth in the Eastern Conference for assists last year, ending the 2021-22 season with a career high 64 points.

Third alternate captain Ty Nash, 19, was drafted by the Hurricanes in the ninth round during the 2018 WHL Draft. The player from Scottsdale, Arizona has skated in 143 regular season games with a total of 66 points and 73 penalty minutes. Nash recently attended the Edmonton Oilers Rookie Camp.

The Hurricanes open the WHL Regular Season in Medicine Hat tonight, Saturday, September 24, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. with a game against the Tigers.

The Hurricanes’ home opener will take place next Friday, September 30, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. at the ENMAX Centre in Lethbridge. A tailgate party will take place before the puck drops from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the northeast corner of the ENMAX Centre.
