Lethbridge man charged with attempted murder

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) has put a local man behind bars in connection to a domestic assault.

Police were called to a home in the Fairmont subdivision at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Friday, September 23, 2022.

A 59-year-old man and a 59-year-old woman were both found with stab wounds and were taken to hospital by EMS.

The man has since been discharged from the hospital. LPS says the his injuries were self-inflicted.

The woman remains in the medical facility in stable condition.

The man, who cannot be named in order to protect the identity of the victim, is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, assault by choking, uttering threats, and possession of a dangerous weapon.

Following a bail hearing, he was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, September 30, 2022.

As the matter is domestic in nature, LPS will not be releasing any further information.
