CALGARY, AB – A Kelowna, B.C. man is facing a criminal charge of dangerous driving after an RCMP officer recorded a Porsche travelling at 270 kilometres per hour on the Trans-Canada Highway west of Calgary.

Mounties say the car was going nearly two-and-a-half times the posted speed limit on the night of September 15, 2022, during regular traffic enforcement.

At that speed, RCMP says it would take 337.29 metres to come to a full stop once breaks are applied.

The speed limit on that stretch of highway is 110 kilometres per hour.

Alberta RCMP Traffic Inspector Chris Romanchych says, “There is no excuse for excessive speeding on our streets and highways. Travelling at rates beyond the posted limit puts you, and those you are sharing the road with, at risk.”

A 36-year-old man has been charged with dangerous driving and is scheduled to appear in Cochrane provincial court on December 13.
