Lethbridge Hurricanes players to represent Canada in U-17 Hockey Challenge

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Hockey Canada and the Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club have announced that a few locals are set to represent Canada in the 2022 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

Players Tristen Doyle and Miguel Marques, along with assistant coach Ryan Aasman, will join Canada’s team.

Doyle, 16, from Bonnyville, Alberta, was selected 17th overall by the Hurricanes in the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft.

He has skated in nine regular-season games with the Hurricanes and has played with the Northern Alberta Xtreme U18 Prep team in 33 games in the 2021-2022 season, where he collected 42 points and 39 penalty minutes.

Marques, 16, from Prince George, BC, was the tenth overall pick by the Hurricanes in the 2021 WHL Draft.

He has appeared in nine games with one goal this season for Lethbridge with two penalty minutes. Marques played 19 games last season, scoring seven total points.

Both players will be suiting up for Canada Team White at the tournament.

Hurricanes assistant coach, Aasman, will join Canada Team Red as the Video Coach.

Medicine Hat Tigers player Tomas Mrsic will also be joining Team Canada, playing for Team Canada Red.

According to Hockey Canada, the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge includes three Canadian teams and five international teams. More than 1,600 NHL draft picks have played in the tournament.

The tournament will take place in Langley, B.C., from November 3-12, 2022.
