LETHBRIDGE, AB – Health Canada is issuing a recall notice for a significant number of dry shampoos.

Certain lots manufactured by Bed Head TIGI, Dove, and Tresemmé that were sold between January 2020 and October 2022 are impacted. A total of 1,574,426 units are impacted.

Health Canada advises consumers to immediately stop using the recalled products and dispose of them in accordance with the instructions for disposal provided on the packaging.

They say there is a chemical hazard risk as the products may contain benzene, which is classified as a human carcinogen.

“Exposure to benzene can occur by inhalation, orally, and through the skin and it can result in cancers including leukemia and blood cancer of the bone marrow and blood disorders which can be life-threatening,” says Health Canada.

The agency continues, “Based on exposure modeling and the cancer risk assessments published by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) (IRIS database), daily exposure to benzene in the recalled products at the levels detected in testing would not be expected to cause adverse health consequences.”

As of October 7, 2022, there have been no reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these products in Canada.

Consumers can visit UnileverRecall.com for more information on the affected products and receive reimbursement.

If consumers have further questions, they can also seek more information via the Consumer Care team at 1-(877) 270-7412 from Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. EST.
