Recovery effort underway at Lake Newell: RCMP

NEWELL COUNTY, AB – A recovery effort is underway Thursday morning, October 20, 2022, at Lake Newell, about 15 kilometres south of Brooks, Alberta.

According to RCMP, just before 4:00 p.m. on October 19, witnesses reported a diver in distress. The diver was doing maintenance on a dam and never returned.

RCMP and emergency crews are on-scene and a recovery effort is currently taking place.

The diver is being reported as a 55-year-old man from Brooks.

Occupational Health and Safety has been advised and is conducting an investigation.
