PINCHER CREEK, AB – Parts of southern Alberta are bracing for the first significant snowfall of the season.

Environment Canada has issued snowfall warnings for several communities in the southwestern corner of the province.

The impacted areas are:

  • Cardston-Fort Macleod-Magrath
  • Crowsnest Pass-Pincher Creek-Waterton Lakes National Park
  • Kananaskis-Canmore
  • Okotoks-High River-Claresholm

On Friday, October 21, 2022, the agency forecasts that rain showers or snow flurries earlier in the day will intensify throughout the evening and become “heavy snow.”

A total of 10-20 cm is anticipated by Sunday morning.

Environment Canada advises the public to “Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Take frequent breaks and avoid strain when clearing snow.”

Severe weather can be reported to Environment Canada by email at ABstorm@ec.gc.ca or by using the hashtag #ABStorm on Twitter.
