UPDATE: RCMP confirm no deaths in Highway 3 collision near Fort Macleod

FORT MACLEOD, AB – UPDATE: RCMP officials mistakenly reported that this collision resulted in one fatality. RCMP officials have since corrected their report to state that no one was killed in this collision.

The Fort Macleod RCMP responded to a serious collision late Friday night, October 21, 2022. Police say the collision occurred at the intersection of Highway 2 and Highway 3. Multiple vehicles were involved, and police initially reported serious injuries.

In an update provided on Saturday afternoon, October 22, police stated that the investigation found that a passenger van travelling with three occupants collided with a semi truck and trailer hauling cattle. Police said one of the passengers in the van was pronounced deceased at the scene, but did not provide further details on the victim.

In an update released October 26, 2022, RCMP corrected their previous report to confirm that no one was killed in this collision.

Another passenger in the van remains in hospital in serious condition, while the driver of the van was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The RCMP did not report any injuries to the operator of the semi truck.

The collision caused delays in traffic, but emergency crews were cleared from the scene shortly after 2:00 a.m. on Saturday.

RCMP continue to investigate the potential causes of the crash.

STRATHMORE RCMP

Police also reported a serious collision east of Gleichen.

Strathmore RCMP responded late Friday night to the collision on Highway 901 and Highway 22X. Police say at least two vehicles were involved and reported serious injuries. The crash closed Highway 901 at Range Road 260, near Strathmore. The area was reopened by 1:30 on Saturday morning, October 22.

The RCMP is advising motorists to drive with extra care as weather conditions are impacting visibility on some Alberta roadways.
