Lethbridge street to be temporarily renamed leading up to Remembrance Day

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The City of Lethbridge is honouring veterans going into next month.

The section of 4 Avenue South between Stafford Drive and 11 Street will be temporarily renamed Veterans Avenue for the week leading up to Remembrance Day, which is on November 11, 2022.

At its meeting on Tuesday, October 25, City Council voted unanimously to accept recommendations from the Cultural and Social Standing Policy Committee. The recommendations were made on Thursday, October 20 and followed a presentation from the Legion Remembrance Day Committee.

The recommendations included:

  • Temporarily renaming the section of 4 Avenue between 9 Street (Stafford Drive) and 11 Street South to Veterans Avenue from Friday, November 4 to Friday, November 11, 2022.
  • City Council declaring Veterans Week in Lethbridge from Friday, November 4 to Friday, November 11 and supporting Poppy Tag Day on the last Saturday of October.
  • City Council directing Administration to work with The Royal Canadian Legion, General Stewart Branch No. 4 Remembrance Day Committee to develop a procedure to ensure these processes take place annually.
