LETHBRIDGE, AB – Changes to snow clearing practices are being made in Lethbridge this winter.

City of Lethbridge Transportation Operations Manager Juliane Ruck says they will be making alterations in phase one snow clearing routes.

The main difference, she explains, is that snow on the affected roads will be plowed to the right side of the street instead of the middle.

“Lots of other municipalities plow to the right and it was identified as part of some of our reviews to create more efficiencies,” says Ruck. “We are looking to try this on 25 kilometres to just see how palatable it is in Lethbridge.”

Phase one snow routes will have temporary parking restrictions with enforcement. These areas will be identifiable with the blue-coloured “SNOW ROUTE” signs, as shown in the image below.

Approximately 2,800 homes are along phase one snow routes. Ruck says they are mainly located along major roads in residential areas.

Residents will receive a letter from the city letting them know about the upcoming changes.

Ruck says these changes are being made as a result of feedback the city received from the public earlier this year.
