BANFF, AB – Environment Canada is urging anyone planning to travel through two mountain national parks this weekend to be extra careful.

The agency has issued winter storm warnings for both Banff and Jasper National Parks.

They say heavy snowfall has developed along sections of the Icefields Parkway around Highway 93.

Up to 40 cm of snow is forecast to fall by the evening on Friday, October 28, 2022.

The winter storm warning applies to Highway 93 from Jasper to the Saskatchewan River Crossing and from Lake Louise to the Saskatchewan River Crossing.

Environment Canada says, “Rapidly accumulating snow will make travel difficult. Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas.”

Wind warnings are also in effect for the Cardston-Fort Macleod-Magrath and Crowsnest Pass-Pincher Creek-Waterton National National Park areas.

Wind gusts up to 110 kilometres per hour are expected throughout the day on Friday.
