Kodiaks women’s soccer team earns bronze at ACAC Championships

RAYMOND, AB – The Lethbridge College Kodiaks hosted the 2022 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) men’s and women’s soccer championships this weekend.

The tournament was held at Comet Stadium in Raymond from Friday, October 28, 2022 to Sunday, October 30 and brought collegiate teams from across the province to Southern Alberta.

The Kodiaks were unable to capture gold, but the women’s team earned a bronze medal by defeating the NAIT Ooks 2-0 on Sunday, October 30.

In their first game of the tournament on Friday, October 28, Lethbridge College beat the Keyano College Huskies 1-0. The Kodiaks followed that up with a 2-1 loss to Red Deer Polytechnic Queens, which secured them a spot in the bronze medal game against NAIT on Sunday, October 30.

Following the third-place game, second year player Kaleigh Stock was named the player of the game for Lethbridge College. Rachel Kraft earned the player of the game honour for NAIT.

The Kodiaks’ Taylor Hrycun and Nikki Stahl were also named to the ACAC all-tournament team.

Red Deer Polytechnic won gold at the tournament by defeating the Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder 1-0 in Sunday’s final. The championship is the first in the women’s soccer program history at Red Deer Polytechnic.

The team will now advance to the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) National Soccer Championships on November 9 through 12, 2022. That tournament will be hosted by Champlain College Saint-Lambert in Quebec.

KODIAKS MEN’S SOCCER TEAM

The Lethbridge College Kodiaks men’s soccer team had their run in the tournament cut short.

On Friday, October 28, they lost 2-0 to The King’s University Eagles in the quarterfinals. Mauricio Rosas, a striker for the Kodiaks, was one of the two players of the game recipients, along with Eagles centreback Rennan Labanca.

The SAIT Trojans won the men’s ACAC championship. They beat NAIT 3-1 on Sunday, October 30 to capture their second-straight ACAC crown.

The 2022 championship is the third title in SAIT Trojans history, and the team will now advance to the CCAA National Soccer Championships in Langley, British Columbia. The tournament is set for November 9 to the 12 and will be hosted by Langara College.
