LETHBRIDGE, AB – The City of Lethbridge has provided an update on two fires this week.

At around 8:20 a.m. on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, 21 crew members from three stations responded to a residential structure fire in the 1200 block of 4 Avenue North.

Six members from the Coaldale Fire Department assisted. No injuries were reported, and officials note the residence was a total loss. A damage estimate was not made available.

On Thursday, November 10, the City of Lethbridge said investigators have deemed the fire as accidental, and was the result of a cooking incident.

Officials added that the structure is “unsalvageable”, and a neighbouring property suffered extensive water-related structural damage. That property has been temporarily vacated. Structures on either side of the fire remain occupied, but also sustained some water and structural damage.

WEST LETHBRIDGE FIRE

Meanwhile, crews tackled a fire on the west side of the city on Wednesday, November 9.

At around 5:00 a.m., 21 members from four stations responded to a single-car garage fire in the 700 block of Columbia Boulevard West.

The blaze was quickly brought under control and no injuries were reported. Damage to the garage, house and vehicles is estimated at $150,000.

On Thursday, November 10, the City of Lethbridge stated that this fire has also been deemed accidental. The cause has been listed as “catastrophic failure of an electrical power cord from an older model portable space heater to a receptacle plug.”

Officials confirmed that the garage is unsalvageable and will be demolished.
