Hurricanes netminder named WHL Goaltender of the Week

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Western Hockey League (WHL) has announced its weekly award winners.

Lethbridge Hurricanes netminder Harrison Meneghin has been named the WHL Goaltender of the Week, for the week ending on Sunday, November 13, 2022.

Last week, the Hurricanes earned a 2-1 win against Prince Albert on Wednesday, November 9. That was followed by a 2-1 victory over Swift Current on Saturday, November 12.

Starting both games, Meneghin turned aside a total of 52 shots and posted a 1.00 goals against average, along with a .963 save percentage.

In the November 9 win against Prince Albert, the 18-year-old stopped 21 shots and was named the third star of the game. During the November 12 match-up, Meneghin made 31 saves and earned first star of the game honours for his efforts.

Originally signed by Lethbridge in September 2021, Meneghin holds a career record of 6-3-0-1, a 2.60 goals against average and a .908 save percentage across 12 WHL games.

Meneghin and the Hurricanes will host the Red Deer Rebels on Friday, November 18.

WHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Meanwhile, Riley Heidt has been named the WHL Player of the Week.

The Prince George Cougars forward averaged three points per game for the period between Monday, November 7 and Sunday, November 13. He had three goals and six assists for the week.

He had four assists in Prince George’s 8-6 loss against the Kelowna Rockets on Wednesday, November 9. He followed that up with an assist in a 5-4 loss to the Vancouver Giants on Saturday, November 12.

Heidt then scored his first career hat-trick on Sunday, November 13 in a 6-4 win against Vancouver.

The Cougars are back in action on Friday, November 18 against the Victoria Royals.
