LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) has arrested a man accused of stealing a significant amount of money from his employer.

LPS says they conducted a “lengthy investigation” after more than $79,000 was stolen from GardaWorld earlier this year.

The first alleged theft, which resulted in the loss of $50,000 from the company, occurred in January 2022. An employee was fired from their job at GardaWorld after the first incident was discovered.

A second alleged theft involved more than $29,000 in February 2022.

The suspect was arrested following a traffic stop on Monday, November 7, 2022.

Riley Lance Russell, 27, of Lethbridge, is charged with two counts each of theft over $5,000 and possession of property (proceeds of crime) over $5,000.

He was released from custody with a scheduled court date of February 15, 2023.
