LETHBRIDGE, AB – The City of Lethbridge now holds the title for best tasting water in the west.

After competing in the 2022 American Water Works Association (AWWA) Western Canadian conference in September, the Southern Alberta city came out on top.

Faced off against nine other municipalities, Lethbridge placed first with Jasper and St. Paul, Alberta scoring second and third place.

General Manager of Water and Wastewater with the City of Lethbridge Doug Kaupp says, “I contribute our success to both our capable treatment plant and our awesome plant staff.”

Kaupp added that the team at the plant conducts water tests multiple times per day, which adds up to nearly 32,000 tests on treated water per year.

Daily tests help to ensure the water quality is maintained and primed for consumption.

Water and Waste Water Treatment Engineer, Tyler Bennett, explained, “Our operational staff work diligently 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to ensure excellent drinking water quality for our residents and other customers.”

“We take pride in our work and are grateful for the opportunity to provide this service to the community,” Bennett adds.

Other competitors included EPCOR’s Edmonton Water Treatment Plant, City of Calgary, Municipal District of Opportunity No. 17 – Sandy Lake, City of Prince Albert, City of Selkirk and Buffalo Pound.

Past winners of the Best Tasting Water in the west have included EPCOR in both 2019 and 2018, Buffalo Pound in 2017, and Lethbridge back in 2016.
