Lethbridge YMCA and Special Olympics Alberta hosting ‘Try It’ event this weekend

LETHBRIDGE, AB – A special event is set for this weekend at the Cor Van Raay YMCA in Lethbridge.

The YMCA of Lethbridge has partnered with Special Olympics Alberta to host ‘Try It’. It’s a sports event at the Cor Van Raay YMCA from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 19. The free event is open to individuals of all ages with an intellectual disability and their supports/family members.

Courtney Roy, Director of Sports Development with Special Olympics Alberta said the day is a way for people with an intellectual disability to “try out new activities, find out what programs will be available this season, and check out the amazing Cor Van Raay YMCA facility.”

Participants can try out activities like gymnastics, power lifting, cornhole, pickleball, and basketball. They can also learn more about Active Start, which is Special Olympics Alberta’s program for young athletes.

Scott Boyd, Senior Operation Manager for the YMCA of Lethbridge said, “The YMCA is extremely pleased to be a part of this new partnership and we look forward to delivering and growing programs with Special Olympics Alberta for years to come.”

The Cor Van Raay YMCA facility is located 74 Mauretania Road West in Lethbridge.
