College and university sports preview: November 18, 2022

LETHBRIDGE, AB – It’s a lighter weekend for the Lethbridge College Kodiaks and the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns.

LETHBRIDGE COLLEGE KODIAKS

Both the Kodiaks men’s and women’s basketball teams are on the road for a couple of games in northern Alberta this weekend.

The women’s basketball team faces The King’s University Eagles in Edmonton at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, November 18, 2022. That match-up will be followed by a meeting with the Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 19. The Kodiaks have a record of five wins and one loss on the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) regular season. They have won their last three games.

Meanwhile, the men’s basketball team is also in Edmonton. They face The King’s University at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 18. At 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 19, they will play Concordia University of Edmonton. The men’s team is undefeated on the season so far, with six wins.

The Kodiaks Esports team competed against Muskingum University on Wednesday, November 16. A stream of the match-up can be viewed at the Kodiaks Esports twitch channel.

In other news, Shane Fowlie and Cooper Williams have been named the Kodiaks Athletes of the Week.

Shane Fowlie plays for the women’s volleyball team. She was named the Player of the Game for both match-ups last weekend (Friday, November 11 and Saturday, November 12). Over the course of two games, Fowlie recorded 18 kills, seven blocks, nine digs, and three aces. Head coach Anna Schwark said, “Shane was able to read the offence very fast and did a fantastic job closing blocks.” Schwark noted that Fowlie was a leader on the court and “was ready to compete in every play.”

Cooper Williams is a member of the Kodiaks cross country team. Williams competed at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) cross country running national championships in Medicine Hat on Saturday, November 12. He finished the eight-kilometre course with a time of 26:40, good to land in 12th place overall. Collectively, the Kodiaks men’s team placed 10th.

UNIVERSITY OF LETHBRIDGE PRONGHORNS

The U of L Pronghorns men’s and women’s basketball teams are in Manitoba this weekend.

The women’s basketball team faces the Brandon University Bobcats at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, November 18. It’s a rematch at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 19. Currently, the U of L women’s basketball team has a record of one win and three losses on the Canada West regular season. They lost their most recent game 67-55 against Trinity Western University on Saturday, November 12.

The men’s basketball team will compete against Brandon University as well. The Pronghorns face the Bobcats at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 18. The two teams will square off in a rematch at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 19. The U of L men’s basketball team has one win and three losses on the season. They lost their last game on Saturday, November 12 against Trinity Western University, 77-72.
