College and university sports recap: November 21, 2022

LETHBRIDGE, AB – It was a lighter weekend for the Lethbridge College Kodiaks and University of Lethbridge (U of L) Pronghorns.

The men’s and women’s basketball teams from both post-secondary institutions were in action.

LETHBRIDGE COLLEGE KODIAS

The Kodiaks women’s basketball team was in Edmonton to face The King’s University Eagles on Friday, November 18, 2022. Tylee Leavitt scored 26 points to lead the Kodiaks to a 90-74 victory. Leavitt also recorded three steals, three assists and five rebounds in the win. It was a different result on Saturday, November 19, as the Kodiaks lost 79-58 against the Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder. Courtney Deemter was the leading scorer for Lethbridge College, with 18 points. The women’s team now has a regular season record of six wins and two losses. They return home to host Red Deer Polytechnic on Friday, November 25 and Saturday, November 26.

The Kodiaks men’s basketball team also competed in Edmonton over the weekend. They improved their win streak to eight straight games to remain undefeated on the regular season. On Friday, November 18, the Kodiaks beat The King’s University Thunder 81-79. Christopher Schlauwitz led the Kodiaks with 18 points and eight rebounds. Lethbridge College beat the Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder 82-77 on Saturday, November 19. The Kodiaks were led by Paycen Blackmore, who scored 19 points. Like the women’s team, the men’s basketball team will host Red Deer Polytechnic on Friday, November 25 and Saturday, November 26.

The Kodiaks Esports team matched up against the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns on Saturday, November 19. The live stream of that contest can be seen at the Kodiaks Esports twitch page.

UNIVERSITY OF LETHBRIDGE PRONGHORNS

The U of L women’s basketball team earned two wins in Manitoba this weekend. On Friday, November 18, the Pronghorns beat the Brandon University Bobcats 82-52. Jessica Haenni was the leading scorer for Lethbridge, with 18 points. Haenni added five assists and four rebounds. In a rematch on Saturday, November 19, the U of L earned another win, with the final score being 84-45. For the second night in a row, Jessica Haenni was the Pronghorns’ leading scorer, with 32 points. She also had five assists and three rebounds. The U of L women’s basketball team returns home to host Thompson Rivers University on Friday, November 25 and Saturday, November 26. The Pronghorns now have three wins and three losses on the regular season.

Meanwhile, the men’s basketball team lost two in a row against the Brandon University Bobcats in Manitoba. On Saturday, November 18, the Pronghorns lost 101-74. Jeff Rodehutskors was the U of L’s leading scorer, with 15 points. The Bobcats got the better of the Pronghorns again on Saturday, November 19, earning a 90-73 victory. Jeff Rodehutskors was Lethbridge’s leading scorer again, with 16 points on the night. The men’s basketball team now has one win and five losses on the regular season. They host Thompson Rivers University on Friday, November 25 and Saturday, November 26.
