RCMP warns of rental property fraud in Southern Alberta

Nov 23, 2022 | 10:02 AM

PINCHER CREEK, AB – Renters in Southern Alberta are asked to be cautious.

Pincher Creek RCMP says they have received complaints of fraud in relation to rental properties in the community.

It is alleged that someone is listing properties for rent online and asking prospective tenants for deposits.

“However, none of the properties are owned by the fraudster and are in fact, not rental properties at all,” reads a media release from Pincher Creek RCMP. “This results in victims losing the entire deposit and being without a residence.”

RCMP advises that you see the property in person before you pay your deposit or any other fees.

Anyone with information about these frauds or who has been a victim themselves is asked to call Pincher Creek RCMP at 403-627-6000. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, online at P3Tips.com, or by using the P3 Tips mobile app.
