Harvest sample program deadline extended
LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) has extended the deadline of its Harvest Sample Program.
The voluntary program offers analytical services to grain producers and grain companies at no cost.
The report includes an unofficial grade along with other quality results including dockage, Falling Number, vomitoxin (DON), and protein and oil content. New for this year, the commission is offering dockage assessments for mustard samples in addition to canola. The information is emailed to the grower.
CGC Chief Commissioner Doug Chorney said some parts of the prairies had a later harvest and it had many growers wondering how the quality of their grain had been affected. He said CGC wanted to be sure as many producers as possible were able to take advantage of the program. “Having quality results in hand before they deliver their grain will help inform their marketing decisions,” Chorney said. “It also helps us share Canadian crop quality with the world.”
