Streets Alive to provide 24-hour warming shelter in Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE, AB – A local service agency is providing Lethbridge residents with a safe place to stay warm this winter.

The City of Lethbridge has partnered with Streets Alive Mission to extend its current operations to provide a 24-hour comfort centre for vulnerable residents.

The facility at 323 4 Street South will expand its hours and the number of support staff onsite from December 1, 2022, to March 31, 2023.

Streets Alive Mission will not operate as an overnight sleeping shelter, however, so people will not have access to beds, mats, or showers.

“This short-term project will protect individuals from extreme weather exposure and provide an opportunity to connect with supports and services that can improve their overall well-being,” the City of Lethbridge says in a media release. “Staff will provide referrals, resources, basic first aid, basic needs supplies and refreshments.”

On Thursday, December 1, 2022, Environment Canada is forecasting a low of -29 overnight with a wind chill of -36.
