LETHBRIDGE, AB – A new defenceman has been added to the Lethbridge Hurricanes roster.

The team has signed 2005-born player Aiden Ziprick to a Western Hockey League (WHL) Standard Player Agreement. The 16-year-old was originally selected by the Hurricanes 148th overall, in the seventh round, of the 2020 WHL Prospects Draft.

He has appeared in 23 games so far this season with the Waywayseecappo Wolverines of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. With the Wolverines this season, he has scored six goals and recorded six assists, along with four penalty minutes.

Hurricanes General Manager Peter Anholt said, “We thought Aiden had a really good camp for us this year but was sent to Junior-A unsigned.”

He continued, “He [Ziprick] went back to the Waywayseecappo Wolverines (MJHL) and worked really hard with their coach and GM Taylor Harnett to continue to improve his game and had a really good start to the year.”

Anholt added, “He was generating a lot of interest from NCAA Universities, so we are very happy to get Aiden signed and are excited to add him to our group for the rest of the season.”

Last season, Ziprick skated in 33 games with the Wolverines. He scored one goal and had 11 assists, along with two penalty minutes. In one post-season game with the team, he had one assist.

Ziprick suited up for the Parkland Rangers Under-15 AAA team in 2019-2020. With the Rangers, he scored 14 goals and had 33 assists, along with 42 penalty minutes.

The 16-year-old will join the Hurricanes for their United States road trip this weekend. The team said he will remain on the roster for the remainder of the 2022-2023 season.

The Hurricanes are on the road against the Tri-City Americans on Friday, December 2, 2022 before another road game against the Spokane Chiefs on Saturday, December 3.
