Lethbridge Hurricanes to host 26th annual Toque & Teddy Toss

Dec 7, 2022 | 3:15 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – An annual holiday tradition is set to hit the ENMAX Centre on Friday, December 9, 2022.

The Lethbridge Hurricanes will be welcoming back the 26th annual Toque & Teddy Toss during their match against the Medicine Hat Tigers.

Every year, the Toque & Teddy Toss game helps to support local charities in the region including the Chinook Regional Hospital, Lethbridge Family Services Angel Tree, the Blood Tribe Police and Emergency Services, RCMP Victim Services, and many more.

Fans are encouraged to bring along a stuffed animal or a toque wrapped in a plastic bag to toss onto the ice between periods.

Hurricanes Marketing and Community Liaison, Kathy Hong, said, “This year, we are hoping for over 5,000 Teddy Bears and over 1,500 toques for our list of local charities.”

“This is always such an important game and the charities like the Blood Tribe Police and Chinook Regional Hospital really rely on this game to help them get through the next year. The ideal sized bear would also be between 12 to 14 inches in size,” added Hong.

The Toque & Teddy Toss is celebrated by every team within the Western Hockey League (WHL) and was started by the Kamloops Blazers back in 1993.

Lethbridge Hurricanes began their tradition in 1995, and 2022 marks the 15th anniversary of the record-setting toss, which brought in 21,905 bears.

Friday’s game will be the second time in the last three seasons the Hurricanes have welcomed the Tigers to play in the holiday match.

Lethbridge has posted a 7-2-0-1 record in their last 10 Teddy Toss games dating back to 2010.

There are still tickets available for the Canadian Tire Toque and Teddy Toss Hurricanes Game at 7:00 p.m. on December 9, 2022.
