EDMONTON, AB – Drivers hoping for cheaper gas can fill up after the price at the pump across Canada dropped today to 143 cents per litre.

A senior director of public affairs at CAA National says the national gas price average has dropped by about 30 cents since last month but the price has not fallen as low as the 136.5 cents average that was recorded on December 9, 2021.

Kristine D’Arbelles says gas prices are expected to remain relatively low in the next couple weeks before they might go up again due to higher demand during the holidays.

According to GasBuddy.com, the average price of regular unleaded gas in Alberta as of Thursday, December 8, 2022, is 132.1 cents per litre. This marks a decrease of 22.3 cents from the same time last month.

Prices have trended similarly in Lethbridge. Gas stations in the city are charging an average of 135.9 cents per litre, down 26 cents over the last month.

Gas in Lethbridge is 58 cents per litre cheaper than the peak of 193.9 that was recorded on June 12, 2022. That was the highest fuel cost that GasBuddy has in its records for Lethbridge, which date back to 2008.
